From ADHD and autism to sensory sensitivities and emotional regulation, neurodivergent brains can relate to pleasure and desire in diverse, powerful ways.
At the CLIMAX Conference in Ottawa — Canada’s first sexual wellness conference — we’re opening space for this vital conversation. Our panel on Neurodivergence and Sex will unpack the intersections of brain, body, and intimacy, highlighting real strategies for creating accessible, affirming, and fulfilling sexual experiences.

Sex and Neurodivergence: What to Know
Neurodivergence is an umbrella term that includes conditions like ADHD, autism, dyslexia, Tourette’s, and more. These differences often shape how people process information, regulate emotions, and experience the world — which naturally extends to sex and intimacy.
Some neurodivergent people may feel heightened sensory responses to touch, sound, or light. Others may struggle with attention, executive function, or overstimulation during sex. Still, many also describe profound strengths: creativity, deep focus, sensitivity, and the ability to connect in unique and powerful ways.
Common Themes in Neurodivergent Intimacy
This conversation isn’t about one-size-fits-all answers. Instead, it’s about honoring differences and making intimacy more inclusive. Topics we’ll explore include:
ADHD and libido: understanding why desire may feel inconsistent or harder to access.
Sensory challenges: managing overstimulation from textures, sounds, or touch.
Communication strategies: using direct, affirming language to reduce guesswork.
Emotional regulation: finding tools to manage overwhelm, shutdowns, or anxiety.
Accessible pleasure practices: creating environments that support comfort and safety.
