EMMA DARGIE

Dr. Dargie (she/her) is a Clinical and Health Psychologist who works with adults in individual and couple

therapy. She did her graduate training (MSc & PhD) at Queen's University, her residency with

Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, and is currently in private practice at Gilmour

Psychological Services in Ottawa. Dr. Dargie trained as a sex and couples therapist at the Sex

Therapy Service at Queen’s University, at Vancouver General Hospital, and at BC Women’s

Hospital. In addition to general mental health concerns, her main areas of practice are sexual

health, couple therapy, reproductive mental health, working with sexual and gender minorities,

and donor conception. She is a Clinical Professor with the School of Psychology at the University

of Ottawa, the co-Director of Clinical Training for the Practicum Program at Gilmour

Psychological Services, and provides supervision to psychology students, psychology interns,

and psychologists in supervised practice. Dr. Dargie is also passionate about sharing knowledge

and resources with the community, as well as education, consultation, and supervision to other

mental health professionals about sexual health, relationship functioning, and working with

those who identify as sexual and gender minorities.

Dr. Dargie has a special interest in supporting those who experience pain during sexual activity.

Her graduate research focused on improving understanding and assessment of Provoked

Vestibulodynia, a specific type of vulvar pain that impacts many. During her work as a

researcher and as a clinician, Dr. Dargie has spoken with hundreds of people impacted by such

pain, as well as some of their partners. She is thrilled to join the CLIMAX panel addressing

Painful Sex and share what she has learned.

A long-time advocate for HIV awareness and education, Shayne served as a national campaign model for the 2016 #LoveIsLoveIsLove campaign and the Canadian AIDS Society's #SexHappens World AIDS Day campaign. In 2014, he also appeared as a guest on MTV Canada Presents: Being Positive – A World AIDS Day Special, where he shared his lived experiences to help reduce stigma and promote greater understanding of people living with HIV.
